Honda is advancing its vehicle lineup through immediate market updates and long term platform development. In Vietnam, the sixth generation CR-V features updated design elements and a 5 seat hybrid version imported from Thailand. Recent updates to the HR-V include cosmetic refinements to the front bumper and lighting graphics while maintaining the e:HEV powertrain. In Japan, the 2027 Vezel (HR-V) has received further updates, including darkened headlight lenses, an optional ‘Black Sport Style’ package, and interior enhancements such as rear air vents and USB-C ports. Camouflaged test units of a next generation CR-V have been spotted in Indonesia, suggesting a design shift toward horizontal rear lights; production for this model could begin in Canada by February 2027. Additionally, the Civic e:HEV in Europe has received a ‘S+ Shift’ software update. This system, inherited from the Prelude, uses electronic management and active sound to simulate traditional gear shifts to address criticisms of the linear e-CVT feel. Looking toward 2027 and beyond, Honda is developing a new hybrid architecture. In October 2026, the company announced its ‘Honda Hybrid’ technology platform, scheduled to debut in 2027. This branding replaces the ‘e:HEV’ name used since 2020. Honda plans to introduce 15 new hybrid models globally by March 31, 2030, targeting North America, India, and Japan. This shift follows a decision to reallocate resources from fully electric vehicle development toward hybrid technology. A central component is the electric all wheel drive (e-AWD) system, which utilizes a dedicated rear wheel electric motor to replace conventional mechanical driveshafts. Integrated with a ‘Motion Management System,’ this architecture aims to increase fuel efficiency by more than 10 percent and reduce system costs by up to 30 percent. Acura, Honda’s luxury division, will also adopt this new system.
