Honduran economic investment trends
Overview
In the second quarter of 2026, Honduras saw Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reach $468.3 million, marking its highest level in 11 years and a 67.4% increase compared to the first half of 2025. This growth was largely driven by reinvested profits and capital from Spain, Panama, and Colombia, focusing on the manufacturing, hospitality, and commerce sectors.
Following this growth, the Honduran Maquiladora Association reported an improved outlook for the investment climate. Regional manager Guillermo Matamoros noted that the new administration has shown a “strong willingness to support” the sector. Matamoros indicated that while the industrial platform is intact, long-term competitiveness will depend on reducing costs, increasing productivity, and leveraging the country’s geographic advantages to attract new investments.
