Honduran former officials face court proceedings

On 28 July, retired General Roosevelt Hernández, the country’s former armed‑forces chief, was formally charged with attacks on press freedom for statements made in 2025‑2026. Hernández announced he would appear voluntarily at a hearing scheduled for 7 August, where he plans to contest the prosecutor’s interpretation of his remarks.

Two days later, on 30 July, the legal team of former National Congress president Luis Redondo filed an amparo petition with the Supreme Court of Justice to obtain the investigative file held by the Public Ministry. Redondo’s lawyers argue that denial of the file breaches his right to a proper defense, while prosecutors claim he lacks suspect status. An August 7 hearing is also set for this matter, underscoring ongoing tensions between former officials and state prosecutors over accountability and procedural transparency.
