Hong Kong fashion industry sustainability trends

Overview

The Hong Kong fashion industry is seeing a rise in sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) integration. According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) 2026 ESG Index, the fashion sector index rose to 65.5, a 2.3 percentage point increase from 2025.

This growth reflects increasing commercial value in sustainable practices. Data shows that 61% of exhibitors offering ESG-related products or services reported additional profit margins of at least 10%, while 47% of buyers indicated a willingness to pay a premium of 10% or more. Industry practitioners increasingly view ESG as essential, with the proportion of those prioritizing it rising from 85% in 2025 to 92% in 2026.

Building on these trends, the third Hong Kong Fashion Fest is scheduled for September 1–14, 2026. The event, presented by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, will feature over 300 local and international designers. The festival includes the “Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2026,” which will focus specifically on sustainability.
