Hong Kong is strengthening its position as a technological and financial gateway connecting mainland China to global markets. Initial efforts focus on establishing the city as a financing hub for mainland tech firms, supported by the “Financial Technology 2030” blueprint and a joint action plan between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Shenzhen regulators to deepen fintech cooperation. This capacity is evidenced by significant capital-raising activities, such as the anticipated US$8 billion IPO of optical transceiver maker Zhongji Innolight.

As the situation evolves, the focus has expanded toward digital transformation and innovation. AI adoption in cross-border businesses has reportedly surged from 25% to 79% in one year. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has promoted the city as a “superconnector” for global scientists and investors, aiming to integrate Hong Kong’s research strengths with mainland manufacturing through the Greater Bay Area. Furthermore, the city is developing into a regional hub for intellectual property services, utilizing its legal framework to facilitate the commercialization of IP assets across the Asia-Pacific.
