Law enforcement agencies in Florida have conducted significant operations to dismantle human trafficking networks. An initial multi-agency undercover operation in Miami-Dade targeted an international ring using digital tracking and online advertisements to facilitate sexual exploitation. This operation resulted in arrests for trafficking, solicitation, and money laundering, while providing medical and psychological support to rescued victims. Building on these efforts, a large-scale crackdown known as ‘State Shield’ (or ‘Statewide Shield’) resulted in the rescue of 163 minors, aged two months to 17 years. Orchestrated by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Enforcement (FDLE), and special human trafficking attorney Rita Peters, the operation is described as the largest child recovery effort in the state's history. The five-day initiative targeted victims across several U.S. regions, with the highest numbers reported in Tampa Bay (46), Miami (41), Jacksonville (32), and Orlando (21). The investigation also extended to Alabama, California, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, (21), followed by Fort Myers (12), Pensacola (8), and Puerto Rico. Tallahassee (3).
