Humanitarian efforts to address shortages in Cuba have involved both international organizations and local solidarity networks. The French NGO Ardenne Cuba delivered essential medicines and medical equipment directly to the Psychopedagogical Medical Center in Cienfuegos. Concurrently, a solidarity network has established systems to distribute clothing, shoes, school supplies, and mobility aids to residents. In Havana, specific locations, such as the home of Amado Riol, have been used as repositories for donations, including medications for cancer treatments. Expanding these efforts, the Spanish NGO Open Arms recently delivered completed its second humanitarian mission to Havana, delivering approximately three tons of humanitarian aid to Havana medical facilities, including supplies, powdered milk, and hemodialysis equipment to the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital and the Dr. Abelardo Buch López Nephrology Institute. This follows During the mission, director Óscar Camps inspected the pediatric hospital’s intensive care unit, which continues to operate using electricity from photovoltaic systems provided during a previous July delivery of seven tons of aid delivery. Camps stated that included solar panels. despite existing blockades, it is possible to provide aid, expressing hope that the initiative encourages further action from other organizations and governments. New international coordination is emerging from Spain. Authorities and solidarity groups in Seville are organizing a humanitarian shipment intended for the Ciego de Ávila province. Coordinated with the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, the initiative aims to deliver medical supplies, sanitary materials, and food to two hospitals and two nursing homes in Morón. Supported by organizations such as Izquierda Unida, Sodepaz, Alucema, and the Vilma Espín Association, the shipment is funded by the Provincial Council of Seville. Officials noted that the US blockade has created “extraterritorial difficulties for shipping companies, insurers, and financial entities operating with Cuba.” If logistics permit, the container is expected to depart Spain in early October and arrive in Cuba by November.
