Humanitarian aid and recovery efforts for the victims of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Flores Island continue to expand. As of early September, the death toll had risen to 135 people, with approximately 70,382 residents displaced and damage reported to nearly 99,000 houses. ~~Infrastructure restoration and medical support, including psychosocial services, remained priorities.~~ Financial assistance included Rp200 billion from President Prabowo Subianto and Rp950 billion in disaster management funds from the Ministry of Finance. For those with severely damaged homes, residents may receive a housing waiting fund of Rp600,000 per month for three months if they choose not to stay in temporary shelters. Updated impact assessments indicate the situation remains severe, with over 22,000 people displaced, 1,620 injured, and damage extending to 106,703 homes and more than 2,100 educational facilities. Additionally, the Ombudsman of Indonesia has raised concerns regarding the quality of basic services in displacement camps, specifically citing inadequate shelter conditions and an urgent need for clean water, healthcare, and education in areas such as Manggarai. To support long-term economic recovery, the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower has introduced 78 vocational training packages for survivors. This initiative includes 40 courses under the National Vocational Training scheme and 38 Tailor-Made Training (TMT) packages designed to align with local economic potential, helping residents re-enter the workforce or establish independent businesses.
