Humanitarian impact of conflict in Lebanon

Overview

Humanitarian organizations have reported severe impacts on children and civilian infrastructure in Lebanon following an escalation of conflict that began in March.

Save the Children reported that Israel has killed an average of seven children per day in Lebanon, with at least 257 child deaths and 1,039 injuries recorded over a six-month period. The organization noted that despite a ceasefire signed in June, Israeli forces continue to occupy areas in southern Lebanon, leading to repeated violations. This has resulted in the destruction of 60 to 70 villages and left over 348,800 displaced people unable to return home.

Subsequent reporting from UNICEF, titled ‘A Continuing Nightmare,’ detailed the ongoing toll, noting 261 children killed and 1,056 injured. The conflict has significantly impacted the education sector, with approximately 436 schools damaged or destroyed, affecting nearly 100,000 children. UNICEF also highlighted widespread economic and psychological distress, stating that 770,000 children are suffering from psychological trauma and that many families struggle to afford basic healthcare and food.
