Reports from GKI Gazdaságkutató Zrt. highlight systemic economic and social challenges in Hungary compared to regional and European Union standards. Social protection spending as a percentage of GDP declined from 17.3 percent in 2010 to 12.3 percent in 2024, a leaving Hungary trailing only Malta and Ireland in the EU.
