Hungarian event contractor debt crisis
Overview
Lounge Event Kft., owned by Gyula Balásy, is facing a significant debt crisis involving approximately 3.5 billion forints owed to subcontractors. This financial instability has impacted major Hungarian events, including the Tour de Hongrie, the MotoGP Hungarian Grand Prix, and the UEFA Champions League final.
In response to concerns regarding payment difficulties and legal freezes on company accounts, the Hungarian government terminated a 75 billion forint framework contract with the National Event Organizing Agency in June. While Balásy offered to transfer his state-contract-based companies to the government, officials declined the proposal. Lounge Event Kft. has maintained that the National Event Organizing Agency has yet to issue payments for completed work, despite invoices expiring in mid-July.
