Hungarian HUN-REN researchers receive international honors
Overview
Physicists from the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Miklós Tegze, Gábor Bortel, and Gyula Faigel, have been awarded the Gregori Aminoff Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The award recognizes their development of Kossel crystallography, a technique that uses a single 25-femtosecond X-ray free-electron laser pulse to determine the three-dimensional atomic structure of a crystal without traditional rotation.
In addition to the physics recognition, researchers Miklós Abért and Gábor Pete from the HUN-REN Rényi Alfréd Mathematical Research Institute will join a four-year Simons Foundation collaboration starting in January 2027. This mathematical initiative, led by Yale University, focuses on the discrete subgroups of Lie groups and involves several international institutions.
