Hungarian parliamentary inquiries into systemic abuses

A Hungarian parliamentary investigative committee has initiated inquiries into systemic crises and executive abuses. The committee initially focused on child protection, appointing sociologist Andrea Rácz as an expert and establishing ethical guidelines for hearings. This process faced political friction, as Fidesz and KDNP members opposed summoning former government politicians, labeling such actions as ‘political witch hunts’ and ‘shows’. Conversely, members of the Tisza Party maintained that the mandate includes establishing political accountability for systemic failures.

The scope of the parliamentary inquiry has expanded to include a work plan targeting 65 individuals for oral or written statements. Led by László Toroczkai, the investigation aims to examine the enforcement system's development since the 1990s. Key areas of focus include the Schadl case, which involves plans to summon figures such as György Schadl, Pál Völner, and Antal Rogán. Additionally, the committee is investigating the operations of the Ministry of Justice and the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities, seeking testimony from various former and current officials.
