The EU accession processes for Ukraine and Moldova continue to advance despite diplomatic friction regarding the speed of negotiations. Following the election of Péter Magyar as Hungarian Prime Minister, Budapest has lifted its veto on Ukraine’s accession negotiations. This reset follows the Ukrainian Parliament’s passage of legislation to protect the educational rights of the Hungarian minority in the Transcarpathia region and the recognition of crimes committed against the Hungarian population there between 1944 and 1946. During a recent European Council summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Magyar and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met to establish a new basis for bilateral relations.
