However, diplomatic tension persists regarding the timeline for further progress. At the Brussels summit, the phrase ‘as soon as possible’ was removed from draft EU conclusions regarding the negotiation clusters for both countries following requests from Hungary and Bulgaria. French President Emmanuel Macron noted that while Moldova’s progress is recognized, the opening of remaining chapters will depend on the country’s merits and continued reforms, specifically in anti-corruption and the rule of law.
