Overview

Genevieve remains a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds near 195 km/h (120 mph) and gusts up to 215 km/h. The centre is about 800 km (500 mi) southwest of Manzanillo, moving west‑northwest at 16‑28 km/h. No coastal watches or warnings have been issued.

The storm’s swells are creating life‑threatening surf and rip‑current conditions along Mexico’s southwestern coast and are expected to reach the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula Sunday night or Monday. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast for western states—including Jalisco, Nayarit, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero and Sinaloa—and could extend to Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Chiapas via interacting weather systems. The risk of landslides, river swelling and urban flooding stays elevated.

Forecasters now note that Genevieve could intensify further to Category 4 before beginning to weaken mid‑week.
