Hyderabad Formula E corruption investigation

K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), appeared before the Nampally Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Hyderabad regarding alleged irregularities in a Formula E race. The case involves allegations that approximately ₹55 crore was transferred from Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) accounts to Formula E Operations in 2023 without necessary approvals.

The hearing was adjourned to October 30, 2026, after certain co-accused entities failed to appear. Other accused individuals appearing in court included former IAS officer Arvind Kumar, former HMDA chief engineer B. L. N. Reddy, and former sports consultant Goveda Kiran Malleswara Rao.

KTR has dismissed the investigations as “political harassment” by the ruling Congress government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He defended the initiative, claiming the government is targeting him for bringing investment to the state, and challenged the administration to conduct an impartial inquiry into the assets of both the BRS leadership and the current government.

Political tensions in Telangana have since escalated as the BRS faces additional legal and political challenges. While KTR accused the government of “murdering democracy,” BRS leader Manne Krishank was arrested following a social media post; however, a local court later rejected police requests for Krishank’s remand, citing Supreme Court guidelines. Furthermore, the Telangana High Court disqualified Danam Nagender as an MLA following his defection from the BRS to the Congress.
