In the Santa Maria district of Chieti, authorities are addressing hydrogeological instability that has threatened local residential structures. Following inspections by a multidisciplinary technical group, including experts from the Università d’Annunzio, officials identified severe vulnerabilities in several buildings, specifically the Don Minzoni, Bel View, La Pinetina, and Panorama condominiums.

The Don Minzoni building was noted for having inadequate foundations and serious structural deformations caused by landslide movement. As the situation developed, the number of people facing evacuation rose to approximately 260 residents across 50 housing units.

Mayor Giovanni Legnini has stated that the administration will follow principles of precaution and prevention. To manage the process, the municipality has initiated a consultation period, allowing residents and property owners until October 12 to provide technical counter-assessments or expert opinions before final measures are implemented.
