Hyundai and other Indian automakers raise vehicle prices

Hyundai Motor India Limited announced plans to increase vehicle prices by up to 1 per cent across its entire portfolio, effective September 2026. The company stated that the specific amount of the increase will vary by model and variant.

The price revision is attributed to rising input and commodity costs, increased operational expenses, and ongoing geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties. The company noted that while it attempted to optimize costs, persistent pressures necessitated passing some expenses to buyers.

As of August 2026, Hyundai’s scheduled increase marks its third price hike of the year, following previous adjustments in January and June. This move is part of a broader industry trend in India, as other major automakers also implement price increases to offset rising logistics, raw material, and inflationary pressures.

Other manufacturers, including Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki, have also announced or implemented price revisions. Tata Motors reported that its entire range—including petrol, diesel, and electric vehicles—will see increases of up to Rs 25,000 starting September 1, 2026. The company noted that while it continues to absorb a significant portion of rising costs, a revision is necessary to offset sustained economic pressures. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki has already implemented hikes for its Arena and Nexa models in August, with increases ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 30,000.
