I/35 highway construction delays in Czechia

Overview

Construction of the I/35 highway section between Turnov and Úlibice has been delayed after former Environment Minister Petr Hladík cancelled the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval.

To address this, the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) has commissioned the company Valbek to prepare new documentation at a cost of 25.3 million CZK. The new technical study will evaluate three options for the 33-kilometer route, including the possibility of a full four-lane solution for the entire length and the feasibility of a tunnel from Ohrazenice to the Valdštejnsko junction.

While current schedules suggest a potential start date in 2033, ŘSD Director General Radek Mátl characterized this timeline as “highly optimistic,” noting that the necessary processes for EIA, variant selection, design, and land acquisition will take several years.
