Iberian nations are expanding their electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructures through various public and private initiatives. In Spain, the public charging network reached 52,746 operational points by September 2026, marking a 5.49% increase from the end of 2025. This growth is characterized by a shift toward higher-power infrastructure, with ultra-fast charging points exceeding 350 kW growing by 10.38%. While the country’s installed power is 2.66 times the European Union target, challenges remain regarding high-power charging clusters along major highways. To meet the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) goal of 5.5 million electric vehicles by 2030, industry experts emphasize the need to accelerate demand and simplify administrative procedures. Representatives from AEDIVE have noted that while ultra-fast charging is a priority, a capillary network of alternating current (AC) chargers is essential for urban environments, particularly for residents without private garages, to better manage grid demand. Regional industrial growth is also evident. The Navarra-based firm BatVol reported reaching 500 installations for private individuals by July 2026, a volume that matches its total output for the entirety of 2025. In Portugal, infrastructure development includes a social-impact network launched by Leroy Merlin and Helexia across 15 stores, which donates a portion of revenue to social rehabilitation programs. Additionally, the Penafiel Transport Center has inaugurated a new electric mobility hub funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, featuring 20 high-power charging points to support a fleet of fully electric buses. Recent regional efforts in Spain have focused on rural and municipal expansion. The Junta de Extremadura implemented the RuralMED Mobility project, establishing three new charging points in Coria, Cilleros, and Perales del Puerto, alongside a shared mobility service using BYD Dolphin electric vehicles. In Almagro, the City Council is moving forward with a contract for a two-station charging point and car wash service concession.
