Iberian giant vegetable competitions

Various giant vegetable competitions in the Iberian Peninsula have highlighted record-breaking agricultural achievements.

In Portugal, Algarve farmer José Rui Santos set a national record with a 905kg pumpkin at the ‘O Maior da Minha Aldeia’ competition in Aguiar de Sousa. Santos and his wife, Cláudia Fernandes, also secured top positions in the watermelon category.

In Spain, farmer Rubén Mendi won the fifth edition of the Giant Pumpkin Fair in Sidamon with an 807kg specimen. Mendi, who has cultivated giant pumpkins for sixteen years, previously won the same competition and holds a Spanish record of 1,187.5kg.
