Illegal crocodile head seizure at Turin Airport

Overview

Italian authorities at Turin-Caselle Airport (Sandro Pertini Airport) seized a dried crocodile head that was concealed in a passenger’s luggage. The individual, an Italian citizen, was traveling from Miami via Istanbul and had wrapped the specimen in paper to evade security.

The specimen belongs to a species protected under the 1973 Washington Convention (CITES). The Guardia di Finanza is investigating the man for importing a protected species without the required certificates or licenses. If convicted, the individual faces potential fines between 20,000 and 200,000 euros and a prison sentence of six months to one year.
