The legal ~~dispute regarding Imran Khan’s medical care~~ and visitation rights intensified following the government’s decision to move him to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa International Hospital, despite a Supreme Court order. While the government cited security concerns, Khan’s family filed contempt of court petitions alleging willful violations of judicial directives. On 31 August, the Supreme Court rejected a second application for an early hearing of the contempt petition filed by Khan’s sister, Uzma Khanum. The court stated the request for urgency was not maintainable because cases are processed according to their turn, noting that 94 contempt petitions are currently pending. The hearing remains scheduled for 16 September. In a separate legal development, Uzma Khan filed a second contempt petition concerning the non-implementation of orders regarding Khan’s family contact. This petition alleges that authorities have failed to enforce directives granting Khan weekly visits with his sisters and virtual communication with his sons, Kasim and Sulaiman. The filing claims Uzma Khan was denied a scheduled visit and that audio communication with his sons has been restricted since March. The petition names several high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Adiala Jail Superintendent Sajid Baig, and the Ministry of Interior Secretary, requesting court directives to facilitate the necessary infrastructure for these court-ordered contacts. As of September 2026, humanitarian scrutiny regarding Imran Khan’s ~~treatment at Adiala prison~~ detention has intensified. His sons, Kasim and Sulaiman Khan, have alleged that their father is being “slowly killed” due to cruel treatment driven by a “personal grudge” held by Army Chief Asim Munir.
