Inclusive sporting events in Italy

Overview

Various inclusive sporting events are being organized across Italy to promote social integration and community engagement for people with disabilities.

In Luino and Dumenza, the seventh edition of ‘Sport Senza Barriere’ concluded in early September 2026. The program commenced with a conference at Palazzo Verbania in Luino titled “Oltre l’orizzonte visibile: ripensare limiti, sport e vita” (Beyond the visible horizon: rethinking limits, sport and life), which addressed physical architectural barriers and invisible social barriers such as prejudice. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 6, activities at Parco Carà in Dumenza brought together families, volunteers, and Paralympic athletes. The event encouraged participants to engage side-by-side, allowing able-bodied individuals to experience different physical perspectives through activities like blind tennis or using wheelchairs.

Other regional initiatives include an open day in Cuneo on September 12, where blind and visually impaired youth can experience football using sound-emitting balls to foster autonomy and social skills. Additionally, Somma Lombardo will host the second ‘Torneo in ricordo di Max e Mauro’ on September 19, featuring a football tournament for people with disabilities to build community ties.
