On 25 August 2026, the two nations concluded the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks in Beijing. During this session, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice President Han Zheng. The discussions resulted in an agreement on eight key points intended to foster stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Under this new framework, both sides committed to negotiating a border solution based on the 2005 political guidelines. To enhance border management and prevent misunderstandings, the agreement includes the establishment of two new military hotlines in the eastern and central sectors, as well as the organization of senior military commander meetings at two new locations. Additionally, expert groups on border delimitation and executive mechanisms for border management will begin defining their respective scopes of work. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC and local commander-level meetings, to maintain peace.
