India cricket team ODI squad and leadership updates

Overview

Reports regarding the Indian cricket team’s upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand indicate potential changes to leadership and squad composition.

To manage player workloads ahead of a subsequent Test series, team management may implement a leadership split. While Shubman Gill is the designated captain, Shreyas Iyer may lead the side for the final two matches of the five-match series. This strategy aims to prevent physical burnout among red-ball specialists.

Further updates regarding the squad suggest that Ravindra Jadeja has been omitted from the New Zealand ODI plans. Selectors may be considering alternatives, such as Axar Patel, in preparation for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa, following a perceived decline in Jadeja’s recent bowling statistics.
