India defense technology and manufacturing advancements

India is advancing its domestic defense capabilities through significant technological upgrades to strategic missile systems and the development of advanced unmanned technologies.

Strategic deterrence efforts have focused on the Agni-V ballistic missile, which has transitioned to carbon composite casings using filament winding technology to reduce weight and increase range. The upgraded system features MIRV capability for deploying multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles and utilizes electromechanical actuators for improved precision. To support these advancements, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is initiating partnerships with private firms to develop and mass-produce missile and bomb systems.

In the realm of unmanned systems, new developments include high-speed interceptor drones and AI-driven swarm robotics. The Ahuti Mk II electric interceptor drone has achieved speeds of 498 km/h to counter hostile loitering munitions. Additionally, advancements in swarm drone systems have demonstrated capabilities in detecting foreign objects on aircraft, with integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning being applied to border surveillance and homeland security.
