India is anticipating a significant surge in seasonal and gig employment during the second half of 2026, driven by the festive season. Projections suggest a 15–20% increase in hiring, potentially creating between 200,000 and 250,000 opportunities across sectors including e-commerce, retail, logistics, and hospitality.

Individual companies are contributing to this trend; for instance, Flipkart announced plans to create over 250,000 direct and indirect jobs to meet demand. This expansion includes roughly 140,000 last-mile delivery roles and utilizes over 7,000 Ekart facilities. The company noted that approximately 75,000 of these positions are expected to be filled by first-time workers.

Industry trends indicate a shift toward more structured, predictive talent strategies, with workforce planning beginning 12–14 weeks before peak demand. While traditional roles in warehousing and retail remain central, there is growing demand for specialized operational roles, such as dark-store inventory controllers. Furthermore, hiring is becoming more geographically distributed, expanding into Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
