Following the May 3, 2026, NEET‑UG paper leak, the National Testing Agency cancelled the exam and re-held it on June 21, subsequently dismissing 47 officials. The Delhi High Court established a fast-track bench to handle cases, while the CBI launched a major investigation. On August 7, the CBI submitted a 94-page chargesheet to the Special CBI Court at Rouse Avenue, naming 13 accused, including three NTA subject experts: Manisha Gurunath Mandhare (Botany), Prahlad Vithalrao Kulkarni (Chemistry), and Manisha Sanjay Havaldar (Physics). The investigation alleges the experts exploited security lapses—such as the lack of frisking and live CCTV monitoring in the confidential section—to extract questions via paper slips, memorization, or by marking textbooks. These questions were distributed through a multi-state network of brokers and coaching operators across states including Maharashtra, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Digital forensics recovered chat logs from WhatsApp and Telegram, as well as financial records linking accused Yash Yadav to the scheme. On August 10, the Rouse Avenue Court rejected a plea from Mangilal Biwal, Dinesh Biwal, and Vikas Biwal to undergo lie detector, brain mapping, and polygraph tests. ~~The accused argued such tests would ensure a fair investigation under Article 21 of the Constitution, but the CBI opposed the application as not maintainable.~~ On August 12, the court took cognisance of the nearly 20,000-page ~~chargesheet, which includes 360 witnesses and 422 documents.~~ chargesheet. On September 1, the Supreme Court of India used its powers under Article 142 to quash First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against students protesting the paper leak ~~in Delhi, Assam, West Bengal,~~ and ~~Bihar. The court directed that no new FIRs be registered against students protesting for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and~~ ordered ~~that~~ a formal policy ~~be developed within three months~~ to facilitate compensation for students who committed suicide due to the examination issues. On September 5, the Rouse Avenue Court remanded Sheshrav Bajrang Suryawanshi, the 14th accused, to judicial custody until September 18. The CBI alleges Suryawanshi, a resident of Nanded, Maharashtra, acted as a close associate of Shubham Madhukar Khairnar.
