India Rashtriya Poshan Maah nutrition campaign

Overview

The ninth Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026, a month-long national campaign to combat malnutrition in India, was launched on September 9 in Varanasi by Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi. The initiative runs through October 8, 2026, and focuses on improving the health and nutrition of women, children, and adolescents.

Minister Devi introduced the ‘Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Jimmedari’ campaign, advocating for a ‘Jan Andolan’ or mass movement. The campaign emphasizes dietary diversity, protein intake, sanitation, and early childhood stimulation. To support these efforts, the government is upgrading 2 lakh Anganwadi Centres into Saksham Anganwadis.

The 2026 observance also marks ten years of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). To date, the maternity benefit programme has transferred over Rs 21,000 crore via Direct Benefit Transfer to more than 4.65 crore mothers.
