India-South America economic relations expansion
Overview
India is strengthening economic ties across South America, with significant focus on Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. In Argentina, bilateral trade has surpassed $6.5 billion, and India’s KABIL has finished the second phase of lithium drilling in the Catamarca region to support electric vehicle supply chains. Discussions are also underway to improve pharmaceutical market access.
Regarding Brazil, India aims to reach $30 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Recent reports indicate that trade between the two nations has grown tenfold over two decades, rising from $1.5 billion in 2004 to over $15 billion. These developments were highlighted at the Global Impact Forum in Mumbai, serving as a precursor to the BRICS Summit in Delhi.
Additionally, India and Chile are negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), targeting a conclusion by the end of the year to bolster cooperation in energy, minerals, and healthcare.
