Indian firms Q1 FY27 earnings surge, finance curbs

Overview

India’s corporate earnings momentum continued through early August 2026. Bajaj Auto posted a 42% YoY rise in standalone net profit to Rs 2,983 crore and a 37% jump in revenue, while consolidated profit climbed 46% to Rs 3,226 crore and total revenue grew 65% on higher sales volume, exports and a growing electric‑vehicle mix that now accounts for about 30% of domestic revenue. The next day, Bajaj Auto’s Q1 FY27 results showed consolidated revenue up 64.7% to ₹20,800 crore and net profit up 45.9% to ₹3,226 crore, with automotive revenue rising 65% and an acquisition that altered its consolidation scope.

Bajaj Finance saw its shares rise to an eight‑month high after the same quarter, driven by a 23.9% increase in assets under management to Rs 5.46 lakh crore, the addition of 5.1 million new customers and the launch of a loan‑against‑property product offering up to Rs 15.5 crore at rates from 8%. On August 3, the stock hit a record intraday high of ₹1,159.90 following FY27 results that showed a 28% YoY rise in profit after tax and a 23% increase in net interest income.

Sobha Ltd posted a net profit of ₹51 crore—a 264% jump—and revenue up 50% to ₹1,278 crore. However, on August 7 Bajaj Finance shares fell about 5.5% to roughly ₹1,086, erasing roughly ₹33,500 crore of market capitalisation and pulling the broader financial‑services index down about 1%. The sell‑off spread to other NBFCs such as Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital and Poonawalla Fincorp, which slipped 2‑3%. The decline was triggered by an RBI draft proposal to restrict NBFCs to term‑loan products and ban revolving‑credit facilities, raising concerns despite Bajaj Finance reporting a 27% rise in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹5,985.75 crore and a 20% revenue increase.
