Indian indigenous maritime vessel development

Overview

India has reached new milestones in domestic defense shipbuilding through projects at Goa Shipyard Limited.

In early October, the Indian Coast Guard commissioned the ICGS Ajit, an indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel. The 51.43-metre ship features over 65% indigenous content and is designed for coastal patrolling, fisheries protection, and anti-piracy operations along the western coastline and Arabian Sea.

Later in the month, Goa Shipyard launched the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) INS Srishti for the Indian Navy. This vessel is intended to support maritime surveillance and the protection of offshore assets.
