India's hosting of SCO Civilisation Dialogue Forum
Overview
India has proposed hosting the inaugural SCO Civilisation Dialogue Forum, an initiative aimed at fostering civilisational exchanges among Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states. The forum is intended to focus on regional connectivity, trade, transit, and collective welfare for Eurasian and Asian nations, with specific emphasis on Indian and Persian civilisations.
During the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh invited member nations to participate in the forum by the end of 2026. Singh underscored that regional connectivity should be built on “consultation and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country involved with it.”
In addition to the forum, discussions within the SCO framework have involved engagement between Indian and Pakistani officials to implement regional priorities. Singh also highlighted India’s support for new permanent SCO bodies, including the Universal Centre in Tashkent and the Anti-Drug Centre in Dushanbe.
