Indigenous cultural festivals in Bogotá

Overview

In late July and August 2026, Bogotá hosted several cultural events focused on the traditions and expressions of indigenous peoples.

The fourth Encuentro de Pueblos Originarios Abya Yala took place from August 6 to 9 at the Centro Nacional de las Artes. The festival featured approximately 30 activities representing more than 25 Colombian indigenous communities, emphasizing music, dance, crafts, and spiritual connections to the land. The event coincided with the United Nations’ International Day of the World’s Indigenous People.

Following this, the second edition of Festival Orígenes, themed ‘Sonidos que atraviesan el tiempo’ (Sounds that traverse time), was scheduled for August 26 to 29. Organized by Idartes with support from the District Secretariat of Culture, Recreation, and Sport, the festival aimed to create a musical bridge between traditional territories and contemporary styles such as rock, rap, and electronic music. The event featured artists from Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Bolivia.

Performances and forums were held at various city locations, including the Planetario de Bogotá, Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, Plaza de Lourdes, and the La Media Torta open-air theater. Access to the free concerts and talks was subject to venue capacity. Additionally, an academic agenda featuring workshops and conceptual exchanges was scheduled from August 24 to 27, focusing on the preservation of native languages and the intergenerational transmission of traditional wisdom.
