Inditex financial performance and expansion
Overview
Inditex has reported record-breaking financial results for the first half of its 2026-2027 fiscal year, covering February to July. The company achieved a record net profit of 2,980 million euros, a 6.8% increase from the previous year, while total sales reached 19,755 million euros. When calculated at a constant exchange rate, sales rose by 9.2%.
CEO Oscar Garcia Maceiras described the performance as “excellent,” noting that the company has achieved 22 consecutive quarters of simultaneous growth in sales and profit. This growth occurred despite a “highly complex global environment” involving high energy prices, weak consumer sentiment, and extreme heatwaves in Europe. During the second quarter (May to July), the company recorded €11 billion in sales, and gross profit for the first half rose 8.3% to €11.6 billion. The flagship brand, Zara, along with Zara Home and Lefties, contributed 13,783 million euros to these totals.
In August, the company saw a 9% increase in currency-adjusted sales. Despite these record results, Inditex shares experienced a decline of over 3% at the start of the trading session, contributing to losses on the Madrid stock index. Analysts noted that while revenue and profit are strong, rising operating costs and a slight compression in EBIT margins—which stood at 19%—impacted the market reaction. Bank of America has maintained a buy recommendation, raising its price target to €65.
To support long-term growth, Inditex is implementing a 2,300 million euro plan for the current fiscal year to modernize facilities and strengthen logistics. Strategically, the company is expanding its budget-friendly brand, Lefties, into the United Kingdom and plans to enter Germany next year to target lower-income shoppers as Zara shifts toward higher price points. Additionally, the company is optimizing its physical footprint, reducing its store count to 5,444 units as it shifts focus toward e-commerce and digital integration.
