Indonesia balance of payments recovery
Overview
Bank Indonesia reported an improvement in the nation’s balance of payments for the second quarter of 2026. The deficit narrowed to US$900 million, down from a US$4 billion deficit in the first quarter. This recovery was driven by a US$12 billion surplus in capital and financial transactions, including US$2.8 billion in net direct investment inflows and a US$10 billion surplus in portfolio investment.
Acting Governor Destry Damayanti noted that foreign portfolio inflows reached US$1.8 billion through mid-August, supported by government bond issuances and Rupiah Securities (SRBI). Foreign exchange reserves remained at approximately US$145 billion as the central bank implemented stabilization measures to manage rupiah volatility.
