Indonesia-China industrial and energy investment

Overview

PT Tiran Nusantara Grup and Hong Kong-based Conch Investment Holdings (Hong Kong) Ltd. signed an initial investment agreement worth Rp 10 trillion on October 9, 2026. The partnership targets manufacturing and green energy sectors, including lithium battery anode material plants, wind power, and waste-to-energy projects. The initiative aims to strengthen Indonesia’s downstream industrial capacity and is expected to create roughly 5,000 jobs.

Following the launch of 11 downstream industrial projects valued at $10.2 billion, the Chinese Foreign Ministry commended Indonesia for its commitment to protecting foreign investment. These projects, supported by Chinese backing, are located in the Weda Bay Industrial Park in Central Halmahera, North Maluku. Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning expressed confidence that the Indonesian government will maintain an “open, fair, transparent, and friendly business environment” to protect the interests of Chinese firms. The cooperation aligns with strategic understandings between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese President Xi Jinping to utilize Indonesia’s resource advantages for economic development.
