Indonesia export market expansion strategies

Overview

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade is pursuing diverse strategies to expand national export markets and secure international trade access.

Initial efforts focused on the modest fashion sector, with the government aiming to leverage Indonesia’s top position in the global modest fashion indicator. To drive exports, the Ministry of Trade is utilizing 46 international trade representative offices for digital business matching and encouraging domestic retail partnerships to integrate national products into major shopping centers.

Further strategic initiatives involve expanding market access for pharmaceuticals, processed foods, and seafood through ASEAN and RCEP frameworks, specifically targeting the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, the government is working to protect steel exports to the European Union and the United Kingdom against new tariffs and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) through multilateral WTO negotiations and the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
