Indonesia post-disaster infrastructure recovery

Overview

Infrastructure recovery efforts are underway across several Indonesian provinces following earthquake damage. In Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) reported that all national roads and bridges achieved 100 percent recovery by early October 2026. While national infrastructure is restored, regional recovery continues, with regional road and bridge progress varying by province. Efforts are also focused on rebuilding approximately 57,027 permanent residential housing units.

In East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Ministry of Public Works has addressed 1,024 damaged sites across eight regencies, reaching 100 percent recovery for road, bridge, and water resource networks. The Ministry is applying a ‘build back better’ principle to ensure new structures are more resistant to future seismic activity. Additionally, in Aceh, work is being conducted to reinforce the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge through riverbank protection to prevent erosion and maintain logistics corridors between Aceh and North Sumatra.
