Indonesia shadow cabinet initiative

On 19 July 2026 a coalition of Indonesian activists, academics and experts launched a civil‑society‑driven Shadow Cabinet. The group selected 15 shadow ministers to correspond with officials in President Prabowo Subianto’s Red and White Cabinet, aiming to monitor government actions, review policies and propose evidence‑based alternatives. The State Secretary said the presidential palace would study the proposals, stressing openness to constructive input.

Ten days later, on 29 July 2026 Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka publicly welcomed the emerging shadow cabinet. He affirmed the government’s respect for surveys and analyses from credible institutions, highlighted citizens’ constitutional right to critique policies, and described the initiative as a healthy sign of democratic participation that can help improve governance and strengthen anti‑corruption efforts.
