Indonesia tuberculosis and health transformation efforts

Indonesia is addressing significant challenges in its national health transformation and tuberculosis (TB) elimination efforts. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin identified a funding gap of approximately US$36 billion to US$37 billion required to meet a five-year strategic plan. To bridge this, the government is seeking diverse revenue streams beyond the state budget, including private sector contributions, grants, and loans.

In tandem with funding efforts, officials are calling for increased cross-sector collaboration to manage the disease. Deputy Health Minister Benjamin Paulus Octavianus has emphasized early detection through screening and preventive medication for those in close contact with patients. Additionally, the Free Health Check (CKG) program is being promoted to detect TB alongside other conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Akhmad Wiyagus noted that TB management requires integrated governance, as the disease affects social productivity and the broader economy. He highlighted that the Ministry of Home Affairs plays a role in overseeing the administrative aspects of health services from the provincial level down to community health centers.
