Indonesian Army infrastructure development programs

The Indonesian Army is executing infrastructure programs focused on bridge construction and clean water access to improve accessibility and welfare in remote regions. These initiatives align with the vision of President Prabowo Subianto and the Army Chief of Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak.

In late August 2026, the Kodam XV/Pattimura command began implementing the Garuda Merah Putih Bridge Program and borehole well projects across the Maluku and North Maluku provinces. This effort involves 55 sites across 13 regional units, including Ternate, Tual, and Morotai, through collaboration with local governments and community leaders.

By early September 2026, the scope of these projects expanded to include the Garut and Tasikmalaya regencies in West Java, with future plans noted for Papua. This expansion follows a technical failure of the Garuda Suspension Bridge in Pangandaran, West Java, where the sling system failed during an inauguration. General Simanjuntak accepted responsibility for the incident, which investigations attributed to broken anchor blocks and overloading. The Army has committed to structural repairs and refinements to the Pangandaran bridge before reopening it to the public.
