Indonesian crackdown on online gambling
Overview
Indonesia has initiated multiple efforts to combat online gambling through administrative discipline and inter-agency law enforcement cooperation.
In early October, the Ministry of Social Affairs imposed disciplinary sanctions on hundreds of employees at central and regional levels. Following investigations by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), which identified over 1,900 suspected participants, the Ministry applied varying penalties. These included honorable termination for certain contract workers and demotions or dismissals for civil servants, depending on the severity of the violations.
By late October, the Ministry of Communication and Digital and the National Police pledged to strengthen collaboration to address digital crimes. This partnership aims to combine preventive measures with law enforcement to tackle online gambling, international gambling syndicates, online scams, and data trafficking.
