Indonesian mayors promote youth sports events

In late July 2026, the mayors of Ambon and Kediri inaugurated new youth‑focused sports programmes. Ambon’s mayor launched the Young Generation In Paradise (YOGIP) board to expand automotive sports, tourism and the arts, while Kediri’s mayor opened the KNPI Run, a community race aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and youth unity.

A week later, the mayors of Medan and Batam continued the push for local sports development. Medan’s mayor opened the BMX Drag Bike Cup, emphasizing sportsmanship and the city’s role in nurturing talent for higher‑level competition. Batam’s mayor inaugurated the Batam Open Karate Championship II, outlining a four‑pillar plan for athlete development that includes regular competition, structured training, professional management and quality coaching. Together, these events illustrate a coordinated effort by Indonesian city leaders to foster youth participation in diverse sports across multiple regions.
