Indonesian political landscape and 2029 election speculation

Speculation regarding Indonesia’s 2029 presidential election has emerged, with observers discussing potential candidate pairings. One discussed configuration involves Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Dedi Mulyadi, a duo that could potentially combine Javanese and Sundanese voter bases. Other projections suggest that Anies Baswedan remains a relevant figure who could potentially serve as a running mate for Gibran.

In a separate development, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad appeared together at an Amanat Nasional Party (PAN) event. Desi Hanafiah, National Coordinator of the Prabowo-Gibran Volunteer Alliance, stated that their interaction demonstrates “solid political communication” and serves to dismiss rumors regarding Dasco’s political affiliations, noting their relationship has remained consistent since the 2024 election.

Legislative activity has since progressed with the DPR RI Legislative Body (Baleg), led by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, approving the Agrarian Reform Bill to proceed to a plenary session. Additionally, Vice President Gibran has addressed social concerns regarding the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program following reports of two students in Karo suffering memory loss after consumption, condemning social media behavior that could incite bullying against the victims.
