Indonesian Regional Development Banks financial status
Overview
Indonesia’s Regional Development Banks (BPD) are navigating a complex financial landscape characterized by both growth in specific products and overall funding contractions. As of June 2026, the Simpeda savings product, managed by 27 BPDs, reached approximately Rp74.86 trillion. Agus H. Widodo, Chairman of the Association of Regional Development Banks (Asbanda), noted that these funds reflect public trust and are intended to finance MSMEs and local businesses to drive regional economic growth.
To celebrate this milestone, Bank Bengkulu hosted a public Simpeda lottery event, marking a shift toward more community-focused engagement. However, broader challenges persist as total third-party funds (DPK) across BPDs saw a year-on-year contraction of 1.69% to Rp766.1 trillion by June 2026. This decline occurred alongside slow local government spending, which had reached only 45.27% of its budget by late August 2026.
While some institutions like Bank Nagari reported growth in local government funds due to central government transfer relaxations for post-disaster reconstruction, Asbanda is urging all BPDs to modernize. The association is pushing for enhanced digital experiences to ensure savings products remain relevant to evolving consumer behaviors.
