Industrial development in the Western Balkans

The industrial landscape in the Western Balkans, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, shows a mix of investment potential and sector-specific growth. The German Chamber of Commerce has identified Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia as strategic locations for the German metal industry due to expertise in metal processing, raw material availability, and competitive costs. However, the chamber noted a decline in German orders from these nations, with Serbian orders falling from approximately €300 million to €200 million and Bosnian orders dropping from €220 million to €160 million.

In contrast to the decline in German metal industry orders, specific industrial sectors in Bosnia and Herzegovina are expanding. DPM Metals reported that its Vareš gold and silver mine reached commercial production ahead of schedule, with a goal to reach an annual capacity of 850,000 tons by the end of 2026. Additionally, the manufacturing firm DIS Eurostandard is launching a 30 million KM investment project to expand steel construction production and logistics, aiming to increase export capacity to the European Union.
