Industrial park development in Kenya
Overview
Industrial development in Kenya has seen both private sector investment and significant government initiatives aimed at boosting manufacturing and regional trade.
In August 2026, DP World signed an agreement with GulfCap Africa to develop a 222-hectare Mombasa Industrial Park. Estimated to cost over $100 million, the project is designed to serve as a manufacturing and logistics hub for Kenya and neighboring land-locked countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan.
Concurrently, the Kenyan government has announced a Sh2.5 billion investment to equip 47 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs). This state-led initiative focuses on supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing infrastructure for region-specific products, such as macadamia in Meru, leather in Wajir, and fish feed in Migori. The government aims to have eight of these parks operational by December 2026, with a goal to commission 21 facilities by March 2027.
